Meet Melissa Lamers
Melissa has been a Wauwatosa resident for 11 years. She grew up in a small WI farming town, moved to the Milwaukee area for college and has realized she much prefers the culture and diversity of city living. As a devoted parent and advocate, she is committed to fostering an inclusive educational environment in Wauwatosa. With firsthand experience as a parent of a child with multiple disabilities, she understands the unique challenges families face and is dedicated to ensuring that every student has access to quality education. Melissa has spent her Social Work career advocating for underserved populations to ensure they receive the care and resources they need. She enjoys WI summers, live music and vacationing with her husband and children.

I have known Melissa for 3 years. As a fellow parent of a child who has multiple disability diagnoses, we have a lot in common. I am constantly in awe of what an incredible advocate Melissa is for her daughter and for all children in the district. There is no one better, or more qualified than she is, to represent us and work for what is best for our kids. I have seen the great work she has done for the Wauwatosa School District already and I know she will carry that over to the Wauwatosa School Board.
In the 7 years I have known Melissa, she has proven herself to be kind, capable and selfless. Melissa sees the best in people and believes that everyone deserves respect.
Melissa would be an excellent addition to the Wauwatosa School Board. She is an important member of her neighborhood, her school community and the entire district. Melissa is a good person and we need more of those in service to our community.

In her role as a district liaison for parents of children with IEPs, I’ve experienced firsthand how her warmth, approachability, and knowledge are a tremendous resource to families navigating the often-intimidating IEP process. I have known Melissa for more than 20 years, since our undergraduate Social Work program at UW–Milwaukee, and during that time I have witnessed her growth from an enthusiastic student into a dedicated professional, mother, and friend.
As a parent raising a child with multiple disabilities, Melissa has developed thorough expertise in navigating complex community and educational systems. She has not only used this knowledge to advocate effectively for her own child, but also generously volunteers her time to support other families raising children with special needs.
Melissa moves through life with impeccable character, unwavering perseverance, and the determination of a devoted mother. Her kindness and support are deeply felt by her family, friends, and throughout the community.
